Low back pain and neck pain have become two of the major
health problems of the modern era. Unfortunately, many
people suffer from chronic back or neck pain that does not
get better despite excellent traditional medical and
surgical care.
Minimally-Invasive Spine Surgery
The primary goal of minimally invasive spine surgery is to
perform limited surgery with the use of needles and to
return patients quickly to their normal, daily activities.
Various minimally-invasive procedures and techniques have
been used over the years and are being developed
specifically for lumbar disc problems which cause low back
pain. Used independently or in combination, these
developments can mean:
▪ No surgical incision - just needle insertions
▪ Decreased operative time
▪ General anesthesia not required only intravenous sedation
▪ No scarring
▪ Outpatient - go home the same day as surgery
▪ A more rapid healing time
▪ Faster returning to work than invasive surgery
All cases are performed on an outpatient basis as opposed to
an inpatient stay of up to two to three days for traditional
open incision surgery. Most patients return to work after a
few days and experience significantly less pain than
traditional surgery. The incidence of complications is much
lower and the procedure does not interfere with traditional
surgery if it is indicated in the future.
At Renaissance Hospital, we emphasize
arthroscopic surgery or minimally invasive surgery when
indicated, but we also perform more traditional surgeries,
including fusions, using the newest techniques. We
particularly specialize in treating patients who have had
unsuccessful spine surgery.
