Vascular Surgery

The Division of Vascular Surgery coordinates a comprehensive network of specialty resources to provide accurate diagnosis and successful management of patients with known or suspected vascular disorders. These services include:

  • Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory
  • Interventional radiology
  • Vascular medical specialties
  • Vascular surgery
  • Comprehensive long-term management

This combination of professional services ensures that patients' problems are managed safely and efficiently. Our collective medical goal is, of course, to minimize intervention, but when intervention is necessary it is critical to maximize the therapeutic efficacy and durability of any chosen procedure.

Precise diagnosis allows knowledgeable selection of the appropriate therapeutic modality, and careful follow-up ensures objective assessment of sustained improvement.

Specialized Services and Treatments

  • Accredited, full-service vascular laboratory offering rapid accurate noninvasive diagnosis of most major vascular disorders; examinations include Doppler ultrasound, color-flow duplex scanning and transcranial Doppler
  • Comprehensive interventional radiologic services offer all available endovascular techniques including PTA, atherectomy, stents and thrombolytic therapy
  • Vascular surgeons with recognized expertise in complex vascular reconstructions including extensive aneurysms and critical limb ischemia; intraoperative angioscopy and ultrasound capabilities to enhance surgical results
  • Long-term surveillance of treated patients coordinated with lifestyle and risk factor modification to improve the durability of all forms of intervention

Research Activities

  • Investigation of newer thrombolytic agents produced with recombinant gene technology
  • Evaluation of a new pharmacologic agent for treatment of claudication
  • Grafting techniques to speed wound healing in venous ulcers
  • Noninvasive surveillance for DVT in high risk patients
  • Transcranial color-flow duplex imaging
  • Evaluation and prevention of cerebral ischemia during carotid surgery

Special Programs
